14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi is ready to take his next giant step that gets him closer to playing for the senior Indian team after he made an impact playing in the IPL and then playing for the India U-19 team.
Suryavanshi made waves in the IPL by becoming the youngest Indian to score a century in the league, as he scored a century against Gujarat Giants earlier this year in the IPL. Then he got an opportunity to play for the India U-19 team and also made his presence felt in domestic cricket.
Now, he has finally received his first major training with the BCCI, as the youngster is currently undergoing an exclusive training at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence facility in Bengaluru. He first attended a special practice session with the Rajasthan Royals after he returned from England, where he scored the fastest century in Youth ODIs.

BCCI Looking Ahead - Manish Ojha On Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Special Training Session
He was then asked to report at the NCA on August 10, where a specific training schedule was prepared exclusively for him. Vaibhav Suryavanshi's childhood coach, Manish Ojha, spoke to My Khel about the specific training programme that was designed specially for him.
"BCCI is looking ahead. The senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, the next batch of youngsters must be fully ready. This training for Vaibhav is part of that process. We pick boys one by one and prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket," Ojha explained.
"He has the ability to attack from the very first ball, which is a huge positive in T20s and one-dayers. You've seen it in the IPL, U-19, and Vijay Hazare. But in longer formats, the performance level drops compared to white-ball cricket. The goal is to bring that consistency up. If he plays 10 innings, 7-8 should be impactful” Ojha further said.
The southpaw will be back in action in India U-19’s home series against Australia A, featuring red-ball and white-ball games. He has reportedly been picked in the East Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy 2025 as well.
